(Editorial) Freedom on the Inside—Cory Bosarge

It has been quite a while since I first started writing this column. Every article has brought about its own blessing, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been challenges along the way. This article has changed the way I write and it has changed my life for the better.
Before the first article was ever written Ethan and I took on the task of coming up with witty column names. In the end, he chose “Penned Behind Bars” and I chose “Freedom On The Inside”. Both, of course, had double meanings, and as far as we were concerned; seemed clever enough.
I remember the last few months leading up to Ethan’s release. He was struggling to come up with a new name for his article. “Penned Behind Bars”, of course, wasn’t going to work anymore. He contemplated on the project with a precision only Ethan would, talking to friends and family, thinking about it before he went to sleep and when he woke up. Through all of his contemplation he still wasn’t exactly sure what it would be when he left. Although, he did have it narrowed down to about ten or fifteen names. In the end he settled on “Vices and Virtues”, which in my opinion, is quite witty, and honestly, a tough change to follow.
Now, here I am, finding myself in the same conundrum Ethan was in. Of course, technically “Freedom On The Inside” could still work. It just wouldn’t be near as clever as it was in the beginning. Besides, it seems like a new column name might help with a fresh start.
I have been throwing a few names around, but to be honest, I would be embarrassed to name them all. Some of them were pretty terrible. Here is a list of the ones I haven’t scratched as of now: Cory’s Cliché’s, Cory’s Kibbitz, Cory’s Rubbish, and Transient Times. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t looking in the dictionary when I found a few of these words. For the non-scrabble players; such as myself Kibbitz means” To give unwanted advice. Transient means: Temporary.
All of these, of course, are just thoughts. However, if any readers of “Freedom On The Inside” like one of these new names, has another column name in mind, or thinks I should just stick to the original name; please, let me know. I assure you, all of your opinions matter to me.
