Political - Mayor - creswell

Philip M. Creswell

On Monday, July 11, 2016, Philip M. Creswell formally announced his candidacy for Mayor of the City of Camden.  Creswell currently represents District 5 on the Camden City Council and has done so since 2013. During this time, he has worked closely with Mayor Max Baggett and the other City Council members to strengthen the infrastructure of the City. There are a number of projects which have been initiated he wishes to see completed, along with ideas for future growth and improved quality of life for all the citizens of Camden. Creswell says, “With your vote on August 23, 2016, you may be assured of my commitment to work hard and give my time and efforts for the betterment of Camden.”
Creswell and his family moved to Camden in June of 1969 as his father, former Camden City Councilman, Robert M. Creswell, transferred here to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Creswell stated, “I feel very fortunate to have grown-up in this community participating in school, church and the Boy Scouts.” Creswell returned to Camden following college, and in 1986 became a partner in a small business, Woodson and Creswell Lumber Company, Inc., an import and export company.  Creswell married Sulynn McCombs (Creswell) in 1991, and together they have two young adult children. Their son, Josh is a fulltime employee of Golden Dragon Copper USA, and daughter, Laura Grace is a sophomore at the University of Mobile.  Creswell is an active member of Camden Baptist Church where he has served on numerous committees and boards. In addition, Creswell is an active volunteer for many community events and fundraisers around Camden.
When asked why Creswell is running for Mayor he responded, “This is not just about politics for me. This is about serving the people of Camden and giving back to this community where I grew up and raised my children. I would sincerely appreciate your support and vote on August 23, 2016 so that we can work together to see Camden continue to grow, thrive, and be a great place for all families to call home.”
