The Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce-8/24/16

It was another busy week for the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce. We had an excellent monthly board meeting, where we discussed some exciting new programs! We also had the opportunity to hear from KC Pang, VP of Golden Dragon in regards to recent publicity the plant has received. Dori Clark from Recreation Resource Management presented information on the company, their plans for the park re-opening, and what we can expect as well. Both speakers were enjoyable and reminded attendees that we have a lot of great things happening in Wilcox County and a lot to be proud of! At the chamber meeting we also discussed continuing the Chamber Ambassador Program. Applications were delivered to schools last week and are due back at the chamber office August 26th. I am looking forward to working with talented students from across the county to promote our area, host community events, and encourage more engagement throughout the area. I hope to have the Ambassadors selected and ready to get involved in the community very soon! I also had the opportunity to participate in the Design Alabama seminar to discuss better promoting our region! This was an exciting meeting to take part in and I hope to be able to share more details after the second meeting! We have received a lot of calls in regards to Roland Cooper Park re-opening and we are happy to announce that YES! The park is opening Labor Day Weekend! We are hosting a Re-Opening Celebration Sunday, September 11 from 3-7pm. Everyone is invited! We will have live music, hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, and there is even talk of home-made ice cream. We will also have a Turtle exhibit and games for children. Come out and join us in welcoming Recreation Resource Management to our area! Several community members, city and county employees have been at Roland Cooper Park helping with the clean up. Going out to Roland Cooper seeing everyone working together to help RRM get the park opened has been an amazing sight! Both Ed and Lynette Jones have bragged about the people in our area, stating never in their careers in Park Management have they ever been so welcomed into a community. When the park closed last October, a dark cloud over Wilcox County arrived, but as soon as talks of re-opening came about, that cloud left town! Wilcox County is on the right track! Our park is open, our high school students are eager to get involved in the community, and groups are coming in to assist us in taking advantage of our natural resources, “small town feel” and history to attract newcomers! It’s a great time to be in Wilcox County!
