Lady Cats headed to Capital City this weekend after HUGE, qualifying win

 

Wilcox Softball Team finishes 3rd in Region

The Lady Wildcats are on a roll! After pulling off a crucial, qualifying win last weekend against South Choctaw County in the AISA Regional Tournament, the Cats have  earned a last minute bounce into State Tournament contention.

The girls will defend their playoff reservations, now, seeded at 3rd,  they’re gearing up for tip-off against Autauga, the number 2 seed from Region 1 at 12:00 Friday afternoon.

The tournament will be held at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. Wilcox raised their record to 18-11 on the season.

The Wilcox Academy Lady Wildcats took the 3rd seed over the weekend in the AISA Region II Tournament. After losing their first game on Thursday they rallied to defeat South Choctaw Academy in the consolation round. In the first game against eventual winner Pickens Academy the Lady Cats allowed 6 unearned runs in the 4th inning. With the game tied 0-0 the Cats committed 3 walks and 2 errors as the game got out of reach. Pickens Pitcher Shelby Lowe allowed only 2 hits and struck out 13 batters. Cameron Cooper and Nancy Jordan managed the only two hits. Jordan also took the loss in the circle for the Cats.

In the night cap the Lady Wildcats rallied to defeat South Choctaw Academy 6-0 to take 3rd place. The Lady Cats struck early scoring 2 runs in the first inning on a 2 run homerun by Sydney Sessions. They added 2 more runs in the second and fifth innings. Sessions led all hitters with 2 hits in 3 attempts. Anna Leigh McGraw, Laken Harvell, Jordan, Cannon McKelvey, and Baylee Eskridge all had 1 hit apiece. Jordan received credit for the win allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4 batters in the complete game shutout.

The Lady Wildcats will face the number 2 seed from region 1 on Friday at 12:00 noon. The tournament will be held at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. Wilcox raised their record to 18-11 on the season.
