Estes Park resident and businessman, Dan Brown died at home Sunday morning, September 24, 2017. He was 65 years old. Daniel Earl Brown was born October 11, 1951 in Bad Axe, MI. His parents are Calvin and Violet (McIntosh) Brown.

Dan graduated from Bad Axe High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and General Studies from the University of Michigan. On May 7, 1977, he married Nancy Griffin in Estes Park, CO. Dan moved to Estes Park in 1973, where he was self-employed for 32 years at Dan Brown Construction and Giant Track Real Estate Company. He enjoyed volunteering his time and was involved as a parent-volunteer for the Estes Park Ski Team, was a board member of the Estes Valley Contractors Association and the Estes Park Board of Realtors, and was a member of the Wilcox Historical Society. In his spare time, he enjoyed skiing, golfing, playing the guitar, traveling and learning. He was also a long-time volunteer at the Longs Peak Scottish Irish Highland Festival. Dan and Nancy were part-time residents of Arlington, AL.

Dan is survived by his wife Nancy of Estes Park, a son Joe Brown of Denver, CO, daughter Emily Lizotte, her husband Quinn, and granddaughter Julia Lizotte of Flagstaff, AZ, as well as his parents of Bad Axe, MI and 10 brothers and sisters: Bill Brown (Janet Biasi) of Estes Park, CO; Nancy (Ed) Walker and Bob Brown of Bad Axe, MI, Linda (Alan) Shunn and Pat Brown of Holt, MI; Ed Brown of Traverse City, MI; Jane (Pat) DiGregorio of Keswick, VA; Cathy (Lou) Cummings of Mount Pleasant, MI; Wendy (Joe) Callewaert of Wilmington, OH; and Julie (James) Netzley of Cadillac, MI, well as by his sister-in-law Emily Brodeur of Nashville, TN, his aunt Rose Mary Nettles of Arlington, AL, and former foster sons Ryan Lavender of Moundville, AL, and Adam Winkler of New York City, NY, and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A gathering took place to celebrate Dan’s life at the Twin Owls Restaurant at Black Canyon in Estes Park on Thursday September 28, 2017.
