On the evening of October 31, 2017, Clifford Donnell “Big Don” Twilley passed from this life to the next.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, the late Thomas and Maggie Austin of Yellow Bluff, Alabama, who reared him, and by his parents, Renetta Walker and Eugene Twilley, Jr.

After many years of marriage to Edwina Twilley, he also leaves to mourn him two daughters, Melody (Ali) Zeidan and Miriam (Tavaris) Sommerville; four grandchildren, William Zeidan, Gabrielle Zeidan, Alexander Zeidan, and Tavaris Sommerville, Jr; two aunts, Lena Mae (Roosevelt) Thompson and Mabel Hailes; and many cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Clifford was born in Yellow Bluff, Alabama on October 16, 1954, and he lived a full life dedicated to his family and to service to the public. He dedicated his life to Jesus at an early age and was baptized at Greater Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church. Clifford served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board of his church. He also served as the first mayor of Yellow Bluff, Alabama.

ully devoted many years of his life to the public education of Wilcox County students as a member of the Wilcox County Board of Education from 1989 until 1994 and from 1998 until 2016, also serving as a member of the Wilcox County Commission from 1994 until 1996. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason; a member of the Rising Son Brotherhood #2 of Yellow Bluff, Alabama; a member of the Cahaba Mental Health Board; a member of the Alabama New South Coalition; a member of the Alabama Democratic Conference; and a member of the J. Paul Jones Hospital Board.

Clifford’s final homegoing celebration will be held at Greater Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2 p.m., with burial service immediately following at the church cemetery in Cold Bluff. Repast and fellowship will be held at the church after the burial.
