Rev. William Cleveland Stabler, age 91 of Franklin, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at his home. Rev. Stabler was born in Wainwright, Alabama and had lived in Vredenburgh, Alabama for several years before moving to Franklin, Alabama in 1963. Rev. Stabler retired from International Paper Company after 25 years of working as a forest technician. He was a bi-vocational pastor and ministered for 67 years in Monroe County and surrounding counties. He was a member of Awin Baptist Church.
Rev. Stabler is preceded in death by his parents, William and Cornelia Stabler; his wife, Annie Ruby Stabler; his son, Paul DeRouen; two grandchildren, Anthony DeRouen and Emily Brown; his brother, George Stabler; his sisters, Pearl Kelly and an infant sister; and two sons-in-law, Fred Thompson and David Stacey.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Stabler of Franklin, AL; his sons, W. C. Stabler and wife Velma of Mobile, AL, James Stabler and wife Darlene of Frisco City, AL, and Rev. Johnny Stabler and wife Linda of Poarch, AL; his daughters, Carol Cole and husband David of Excel, AL, Sarah Stacey of Monroeville, AL; Blanche Thompson of Sulligent, AL; and Rosemary White and husband Randy of Eufaula, AL; his daughter-in-law, Ann DeRouen of Franklin; his step-children, Jimmy Sadler and wife Kathy of Darlington, AL, Jack Sadler and wife Cathy of Darlington, AL, and Betty Clark of Mobile, AL;one sister, Frances Turberville of Finchburg, AL; twenty-one grandchildren; fifty-seven great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; and five nieces and three nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 20, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Reid Nettles, Rev. Kenneth Bowen, and Rev. Wayne McMillian officiating. Burial followed in Reaves Chapel Cemetery in Wilcox County with his son, Rev. Johnny Stabler, officiating. Visitation was Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
