Geneva Pearson Arnold, age 88, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020, with her family by her side. A graveside service was held Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at twelve noon at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Pine Hill, with Bro. Adam Andrews officiating and O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Arnold was born January 11, 1932 in Oak Grove to Houston and Elizabeth McClure Pearson. She was a lifelong resident of Wilcox County, a graduate of Pine Hill High School and a faithful member of the Thomasville Church of Christ. On June 8, 1949, she married James Henry Arnold and they made their home in Pine Hill. Memaw, as she was lovingly known by her family, was a woman of many talents. She was famous for her coconut cake, Peter Paul Mounds cake, and chocolate pie. She was a masterful homemaker, seamstress, baker, and gardener. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Geneva opened their home to many other extended family members and always made sure there an extra place at the table.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by her daughters, Lesha (Bruce) Monk of Leroy, AL; and Patsy (Jed) Dunagan, of Pine Hill, AL; son, Nathan (Michele) Arnold of Reidsville, NC; and daughter-in-law Sue Arnold of Greenville, AL; sister, Mary Lou Criswell of Jackson, AL; grandchildren, Jerod Kyle Arnold, Tela Dunagan Noreikas, Leslie Ann Arnold, Sara Cally Dunagan, Erica Elizabeth Monk, Jennifer Grace Arnold, and James Jordan Arnold; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James; daughter, Julie Marie; son, Kyle; and brother, Jerome Pearson.
Pallbearers were Caleb Arnold, Dustin Bradford, Sterling Arnold, Clyde Ray Pearson, Jerry Pearson, Joe Arnold, Ronald Criswell, Randy Cline, TJ Kirkham, and Van Phillips.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Fund, 2001 County Road 17, Pine Hill, AL 36769. Geneva also loved beautiful flowers.
