Alonzo Heath Purser was born to John Bochee Purser and Annie Judson Westbrook Purser in Linden, Alabama on February 28, 1933. From the age of three until adulthood, he was reared by a maternal aunt and husband, Dorothy Louise Westbrook Aydelott and Ira Larimore Aydelott.
He passed away peacefully at Thomasville Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. His wife and daughter were continuously with him during his hospitalization.
He was a quiet, unpretentious man who loved the Lord, his family, and friends.
Mr. Purser accepted Christ while a teenager at his home church, Linden Baptist, and was an active church member until ill health prevented his attendance. For many years he served as a deacon.
At the time of his death his church membership is with Thomasville Baptist Church.
He is a graduate of Linden High School and received the two year Associate Diploma from Hobson State Technical School (now Coastal College). He retired from the State of Alabama Dept. of Youth Services where he was Plant Maintenance Supervisor.
As a youngster he enjoyed Boy Scouts. In later years, as a young adult, he served as Assistant Scout Master in his home town. He is a past affiliate of the Oak Hill Saturday Night Supper Club and, a former member of Lions Club. At the time of his death he held membership in NEA, AEA, Alabama Treasure Forest, Wilcox County Landowners, and Sunny South United.
Prior to his becoming a bed patient, he enjoyed each spring preparing for and participating in the “Classroom in the Forest” for fifth graders.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost fifty-seven years, Robbie Frye Cook Purser of Sunny South, AL, daughter, Dorothy Cook Purser Kramer (Jonathan MacDonald) and grandson Heath MacDonald Kramer, all of Crestview, FL. He has one surviving first cousin, Hays Westbrook Caplinger of Nanafalia, AL, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, foster parents, and a brother, Henry Marvin Purser.
Active pallbearers were Abe Cook, III, Raymond Dee Maples, Jr., George McGowin Cook, III, Dr. Willaim Maples, James E. Brock and John Traylor, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Frank Dozier, John S. (Pete) Sheehan, Sam Mike McAlpine, Paul Wingard, Shannon Hollinger, Steve Smith and John Calvin Cook.
The family expresses special appreciation to Dr. Frank Dozier, the many friends, health agencies and caregivers who have done so much during these past seven years. At the time of his death, Homestead Hospice and Oxford Health Care were the current assistants. The family is especially indebted to the entire Staff of Thomasville Regional Medical Center for their exceptional care during the greater part of November, 2020.

Funeral services were held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ty Parten officiating. Graveside services followed at Cook Hill Family Cemetery, O’Possum Bend (near Camden, Alabama).
