Joan Hasson T. Darwin, beloved mother and sister, passed to eternal life on February 28, 2022. Born March 16, 1927, she was the second of five daughters of Luther Castle and Annie Hicks Hasson. A native and lifelong resident of Camden, Joan lived a life of Christian faith marked by her love for Jesus Christ, her family, and her dedication to the Camden United Methodist Church.
From her childhood study of piano and violin through graduation from Wilcox County High School and her years at Huntingdon College and participation at Methodist Assembly, Joan was active in music. As an adult she was a frequent soloist and steadfast member of the church choir.
Following college, she married Alvin Dale Turner of Oak Hill and together they parented her two surviving children; Victor W. Turner (Marietta) of Darby, Montana, and Carolyn Avon Turner (James Carroll) of Atlanta.
In later life Joan was the devoted wife of William N. Darwin Sr., who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her sisters; Sara Emily Hasson Anthony, Mary Hasson, Louise Hasson Morrison, as well as her loving stepson, William N. Darwin Jr.
In addition to her children, Joan is survived by her granddaughter; Tara Leigh Turner Duncan (Michael) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and her great grandson; Braxton Victor Duncan. She is also survived by her sister; Miriam Hasson Shannon (Earl) of Camden, a number of nephews and nieces; her Darwin grandchildren; and her loyal caretaker and friend; Josephine Stallworth.
A graveside service for Mrs. Darwin was held in the Camden Cemetery on Saturday, March 5, with her pastor, Rev. Brian Dovey officiating. Mac Morrissette McLeod, her dearest nephew, was recognized as her honorary pallbearer. Active pallbearers included; Dan Burford, Chris Burford, Charles Casey, Jackson Casey, Bryant Hollinger and William Malone.
The family request that any gift in Joan’s memory be given to the music fund of the Camden United Methodist Church.
