William Jasper “Jackie” Autery age 77 of Thomasville, AL passed away March 4, 2022 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. He was born January 16, 1945 in Vineland, AL to Stanley C. and Kate Autery. Once he graduated high school he began a career as a merchant marine until the Vietnam conflict peaked and he chose to enlist in the military, where he served his country as a hero and was awarded six medals, one being the Bronze Star Medal.
Shortly after being discharged from the service in 1970, he met the love of his life, Alice McGilberry and they married within six weeks. They were married for over fifty years. She preceded him in death two months prior. Some could say he died of a broken heart.
He made a long career of being an E&I electrician at McMillian Bloedel for decades.
He is survived by four children, Courtney (Nicholas) Ammons, Corey (Jennifer) Autery, Megan Autery, and Morgan (Anna) Autery and eleven grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister-in-law, Tina Councilman; two siblings, Ralph (Sandra) Autery and Trudy May.
Siblings preceded in death: Reba Autery Pearson, Gene Autery, and Ted Autery.
Graveside funeral services were held at Independence Cemetery in Sunny South, AL on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Dr. Donna Pearson officiating.
Active pallbearers were William May, Ken Capps, James Pearson, Steve Pearson, Justin Webb, and Corey Autery.
Honorary pallbearers were Nicholas Ammons and Charlie Jordan.
