Oliver Lee Purnell was born to the late Estelle and Sammie Lee Purnell on October 29, 1947. He became a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church at an early age. He was an accomplished musician with a great love of music. He was a retired Machinist with a BS Degree in History from Stillman University.
Oliver quietly went to sleep on August 13, 2021, at Vaughn Memorial Hospital in Selma, Alabama. He leaves to cherish his memory Eleven siblings: Hazel Clark, Lydell (Samuel) Cosby, Helen Purnell, Joanna Payne, Gayle Purnell, Shannon Lawrence, Marion Purnell, Valeria (Dr. Stephen) Kolison, Vivian Purnell, Gloria Purnell, and Melvene Purnell. He was preceded in death by two siblings Eddie Tate and Samuel Purnell, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory seven nieces; Sandra Green, Yolanda Payne, Ophelia Kolison, Sharmeen Jones, Stephanie Lawrence, Selena Lawrence, and Rasheda Martin; eleven nephews, Michael (Tonya) Tate, Curtis (Chemeka) Purnell, Justin Purnell, Malcolm (Amanda) Cosby, Marcell Cosby, Marcus Cosby Michael Cosby, Antoine Mendenhall, Stanford Mendenhall Jr., Stephen Kolison and Samuel Kolison; Great nieces and nephews. A host of dearly beloved cousins and many friends.
