Cook, George McCown, Jr., “Mac Cook” was born on December 11, 1933 and passed away peacefully at home on Sunday June 12, 2022. Born, December 11, 1933 in Selma, Alabama, McCown was the son of George McCown Cook, Sr. and Nettie Newell Finklea.
He is survived by his five children: George McCown Cook III, “Trey”, Carol Cruise Cook, Allen Finklea Cook, Hewston Bradford Cook, and Sherri Newell Cook Bush (Matt). He is survived by eight grandchildren, Mary Maddox Cook, Carter Cook, Lindsey Cook, Cruise Cook, Cason Cook, Matthew Bush, Hallie Bush, and Brie Bush and sister, Theresa Ann Cook Beightol (Kevin).
McCown, “Mac” Cook served in the United States Army during the 1950’s Korean War and lived a full, happy, and peaceful life at his home in Possum Bend, Alabama. He had a deep love and admiration for the Possum Bend area and delighted in the beauty of his fishing ponds and fruitful orchards. He enjoyed raising chickens and delighted in collecting Indian artifacts and loved riding around in his truck. He also loved to read. He attended Auburn University in 1952 and absolutely loved watching all Auburn sports. He was a sweet, southern gentleman who enjoyed all kinds of jelly and hot sauce on everything. He also loved fried oysters and was able to enjoy them recently even though he gave Allen a thumbs down on the seasoning (ha!)
He was a wonderful father and raised five, fun-loving children who kept him on his toes for many years. He also loved his grandchildren dearly. He met everyone with a smile and truly loved his family. He was a hard-working man who continued working, building fences until just a few months before he passed away. He loved to use the word “Sugar” as a greeting to many. We will always carry his wonderful memories in our hearts.
