Marvin Ezra Allen, Jr., who just celebrated his 76th Birthday, of Prattville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023. Marvin was born on June 9, 1947, to Esther and Ezra Allen at his grandparents’ home on Scott Mountain nestled in the hamlets of Riderwood and Rock Springs, Choctaw County, Alabama. This is where his true love for the outdoors all began. Marvin was a true outdoors man through and through, his love for nature and wildlife ran deep.
In 1951, his family moved to Camden, Alabama where he found a love of horses and enjoyed the outdoors. He was spoiled by his two older sisters and adored by his youngest sister. After graduating from Wilcox County High School, he went offshore deep-sea diving to repair pipelines, affording to attend Auburn University. As the first in the family to attend college, he was a walk-on Football Player at Auburn for Shug Jordan. At Auburn, he met the love of his life, Angela Allen, and were married. They had two children, a son Shay Allen (Karen) and a daughter Leah Ackerman (Josh).
Marvin began his career as a Professional Land Surveyor and practiced for the next 29 years. In addition to his career, he was passionate about spending time with his family, camping, duck hunting, fishing, spending time on Lake Martin and at Packard’s Bend with Family, training dogs and horses, working with livestock / farming, and spending time with his kids. A father, brother, son, uncle, grandfather, coach, mentor, friend, and was soon to be a great grandfather. He was intelligent, courageous, witty, amusing, vigorous, caring, and never met a stranger. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of his five grandchildren.
Everyone who knew Marvin knew that he was an extremely kind, loving, entertaining, outgoing person, and he enjoyed everyone he would meet. He is survived by his son Marvin Shay Allen (Karen), daughter Leah Allen Ackerman (Josh), former wife Angela Allen, and five grandchildren: Blaine Cooper, Cameron Allen, Layton Cooper, Hannah Ackerman, and JT Ackerman. Marvin also leaves behind two sisters, Bernice ‘Esther’ Viator (Errol) of New Iberia, LA, Joan King (Richard) of Saraland, AL, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He will forever be in their hearts and has left a lasting impression on everyone’s lives.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Marvin Ezra, Sr. and Esther Allen, his sister Barbara Brady, and his nephew Richard “Dickie” King, Jr.
There was a memorial / celebration of life on Saturday, June 17th at 10:00am at Dunklin Funeral Home, 63 Camden Bypass, Camden, AL 36726, followed by graveside services officiated by Steve Sanders at Greenwood Cemetery, Camden, Alabama.
Pallbearers: Josh Ackerman, Scott Lowe, Bryant Lowe, Shawn Johnson, Scott Stacey, Brian Stacey, Devin Garrick, and Abdul Maflahi.
