On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Martha Ellen Agee Tait Phillips passed away at the age of 74. Martha was a lifelong resident of Camden, AL. She was a graduate of Wilcox High School and a member of Camden United Methodist Church and Canton Bend United Methodist Church.
Martha was an accomplished china painter, having learned the art from her mother, Ellen Jasperson Agee Tait. Martha enjoyed all forms of art and drew inspiration from her flowers. She grew beautiful roses, irises and gardenias.
Martha was an active member of Camden United Methodist Church. She served on the Family Ministries team. She loved preparing the Lenten Lunches during the Easter season. Martha spent many years coordinating crafts for Vacation Bible School.
Martha loved uplifting true life movies. Two of her favorites were Rudy and McFarland, USA. She enjoyed several comedic movies including all of Chevy Chase’s Vacation movies and Weekend at Bernie’s.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Jackson Phillips and her parents Julian Marsh and Ellen Sophia Jasperson Agee Tait.
Martha is survived by her daughters Margaret (Bart) Carlisle, Meredith (Paul) Angelette, Melanie Morgan and Ashley (John) Biggs. Martha has seven grandchildren: Tait Jordan Carlisle, Morgan Ashley Angelette, Bryan Marsh Carlisle, Johnathon Otis Biggs, Preston Scott Lawrence, Vivian Sophia Lawrence, and Jackson Tait Biggs.
Pallbearers are Tait Jordan Carlisle, Bryan Marsh Carlisle, Johnathon Otis Biggs, Jackson Tait Biggs, Preston Scott Lawrence, Tyler Scott Elsberry, George Woods and James Hickenbottom.
Services were held at Camden United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11 am. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Graveside services were held at Canton Bend United Methodist Church immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society or Saint Jude Hospital.
